It is 3 miles west of the picturesque conservation village of Kenmore (with hotels, a shop and a café) and 5 miles west of Aberfeldy with its excellent Visitor Information Centre, shops, restaurants, golf and swimming pool.
Drummond Cottage is part of the award-winning Comrie Steading designed within the walls of an original 18th century mill and farm steading. The conversion of the steadings in the 1990s won the top Scottish Heritage Award for the sympathetic restoration of listed buildings.
The cottage is double-glazed and efficiently heated for comfort and cosiness. Ideal for a small family or two couples, it has a warm ambience and a lovely ‘cottagey’ feel which combines modern comforts with traditional appeal. The kitchen is a good size and has been cleverly designed so that everything is to hand and the shower room, which doubles as a utility room, is also on this level.
The staircase rises from the living area and upstairs are the two bedrooms, a double and a twin, both of which are a very good size and are prettily decorated with only slightly coombed ceilings, and bathroom with shower over the bath.
This exceptionally attractive and comfortable cottage has an enclosed garden (with furniture). It has countryside views over gorse-covered hills to the rear, a farm with grazing deer to the fore and the massive bulk of Schiehallion (the Fairy Mountain) beyond.
Drummond Cottage offers holiday visitors the chance to live for a while in this superb landscape of hills and valleys near Loch Tay and the River Lyon.
You can enjoy walking or climbing the nearby Munros, cycling, golf on a choice of courses, or fishing on the Rivers Tay and Lyon. Water sports and boat hire on Loch Tay are available in Kenmore, where there is also a small lochside beach. While you are there, visit the restored Iron Age crannog in the loch. Water-rafting, canoeing, mountain biking, clay shooting and archery are all available locally.
Drummond Cottage is central too for visiting Oban and Fort William, Loch Ness and Inverness, Royal Deeside and Pitlochry with its famous Festival Theatre .
No visit to this area would be complete without taking in two of Scotland’s most attractive lochs, Loch Tummel and Loch Rannoch, both of which are within an hour’s drive of the cottage. On the way you will pass the village of Dull, which has recently been twinned very aptly with the town of Boring in Oregon!
Ospreys can frequently be seen fishing in Loch Tummel, while it is possible to drive or cycle right round Loch Rannoch and there are some wonderful lochside picnic places to enjoy. Just beyond the head of the loch is Rannoch Station, the second most remote station in Britain, where you can catch the West Highland Line train to Fort William and Mallaig. This will take you across lonely Rannoch Moor and some of the country’s most spectacular scenery.
In the other direction, the nearest town to the cottage is Aberfeldy, a pretty, bustling little place with a leisure centre, distillery, plenty shops and eating places, a cinema and some lovely woodland walks at the ‘Birks of Aberfeldy’ just outside the town.
