Overview

This traditional house sits in a picturesque situation surrounded by trees and only half a mile from Loch Shiel. Inside, the cosy sitting room has a traditional wood-panelled roof and comfortable seating that is centred round the open fire in its striking feature stone fireplace. There is also a charming little sunroom that offers a lovely outlook of the garden and scenery beyond.

The elegant kitchen is very spacious and well-equipped with built-in appliances and a utility room off it that houses the laundry facilities. It also has a dining area, making it the ideal place to linger over sociable evening meals.

All on one level there are three bedrooms, a spacious double room and neat twin and single rooms. They are all beautifully presented and share the modern tiled bathroom that has a bath and a large walk-in shower. There is also a handy additional WC.

Outside, there is parking to the side and a large enclosed grassed garden surrounds the house. It is sloping in some areas and has a pretty view of Beinn Resipol in the distance. A gate provides access to the hillside beyond and there is a small burn that runs just inside the grounds.

Map & Local

You can cross over Loch Linnhe to the Ardnamurchan peninsula on the Corran ferry from Glencoe, or take the scenic, but rather lengthy, route around the loch via Fort William, where you can stock up on supplies.

Salmon and trout fishing is available on Loch Shiel and there is plenty of walking and hill climbing in the countryside surrounding the house. You can even take on Beinn Resipol (12 miles), one of the better known Corbetts, that is renowned for the spectacular viewpoint at the summit.

Heading north at Dorlin (5.5 miles) is a sandy beach where the ruins of Castle Tioram sit on a tidal island in Loch Moidart. There is also sea kayaking available further north at Glenuig (10 miles).

Venturing south is the nearest village of Acharacle (4 miles) that has a small grocery shop, baker, garage, pub/restaurant and a takeaway. Following the road round scenic Loch Sunart you come to Strontian (16 miles) that has a bar and restaurant and is known as a popular spot for sailing.

The whole of the Ardnamurchan peninsula is a mecca for wildlife, with seals, dolphins and even Minke whales having been spotted off its shores. Ardnamurchan Charters, based out of Laga Bay (12 miles), offers wildlife spotting boat trips, as well as trips across to the Isle of Mull and to further flung islands such as Coll and Tiree. They even hire out boats that you take out yourself. Bird watching enthusiasts will love the RSPB reserve at Glenborrodale (13.5 miles) where there are various nature trails and walks that allow you to take in a host of birdlife, including golden eagles, redstarts and spotted fly catchers.

At the most westerly point of the peninsula is the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse (31 miles) that has been guiding sailors home since it was built way back in 1849. If you make the effort to climb the tower you are rewarded by some magnificent scenery. A little further on at Sanna Bay is an absolutely stunning beach with pristine white sand and clear turquoise waters.
