Overview

Inside, the main living accommodation downstairs is large and open plan with comfy seating and doors that lead out to a welcoming conservatory where the amazing sea views can be appreciated whatever the weather.

The sitting room is partly open to the double height dining room and neat and compact kitchen area that has a mezzanine level above so is cheerful and airy with further doors out to that brilliant conservatory. Also on this level is a single bedroom that has a great sea view, as well as a WC and utility room which houses the laundry facilities and has handy space for drying clothes, etc.

Open tread stairs lead up to the mezzanine walkway where there is an attractive double bedroom and family bathroom at one end and the master suite at the other. The master bedroom is incredibly spacious with a super king-size bed and another amazing view from the window. It also has a modern en suite shower room and a floor to ceiling window that keeps it very light and bright.

At the front of the house a delightful patio area has been perfectly positioned for admiring the pretty garden, gorgeous sea vista beyond and the swans and wading birds that call it home. Parking is right by the door and the pebbly shoreline just across the track just begs to be explored. Waverley is approached by an unmade single track road, which can be uneven in places, so care should be taken.

Map & Local

Ferries over from Ayrshire on the mainland arrive into Brodick Bay (8 miles) and Lamlash (4 miles) is the best place to do some supermarket shopping on the way to the cottage.

There is a well-stocked shop/café and a great little bistro with plenty of fresh, local seafood on offer just 15 minutes’ walk away and, when the tide is out, the lovely sandy beach just along the road is revealed.

The Arran Coastal Way walking route stretches all the way around the scenic coastline and is broken down into sections, one of which starts at Whiting Bay and heads over to Brodick where a visit to the baronial Brodick Castle and its beautiful gardens is sure to be on the agenda.

On the approach to Arran it is hard not to be captivated by the sight of the impressive Goat Fell, the highest mountain on Arran that stands at over 2,800 feet high. It takes around 4 and a half hours in total to ascend from the starting point at the Arran Brewery (10 miles), which produces tasty craft beers, and at the summit there are magnificent panoramic views of the island and its surroundings.

If golf is your game then there is a choice of excellent 18 hole courses at Brodick and Whiting Bay itself and 9 hole course to try out at Lochranza (21 miles), perhaps combined with a stop off at the Isle of Arran Distillery for an informative tour or whisky tasting session.

Over on the west coast of the island history enthusiasts will enjoy the interesting walk that leads around Machrie Moor where there are various prehistoric standing stones, stone circles and cairns to explore. The nearby King’s Cave is said to be where Robert the Bruce had his famous encounter with a very determined spider and today is fascinating to explore and admire the ancient stone carvings.

Please note: while we make every effort to be as accurate as possible, the actual position of the cottage indicated on the map above and the proximity of the amenities in the Local Info section cannot be guaranteed to be precise and should be used as a guide only.
