Winkie’s Loft is a lovely, characterful upper floor hideaway that sits in a little row looking right out at the River Tay in the pretty seaside town of Broughty Ferry and in very easy reach of the wonderful city of Dundee (4 miles).

This unusually named apartment has quite an interesting story to it. It is actually named after a carrier pigeon that flew 120 miles back to her loft in Broughty Ferry to alert rescue crews to the plight of his team’s wrecked aircraft in WW2. It was then honoured by becoming the first ever animal to receive the Dickin medal for bravery.
Open plan living is the order of the day here as the sitting/dining room and kitchen is all in together, making it a great space for socialising and spending time together. Curl up on the comfy sofas and enjoy a film, that is if you can tear your eyes away from the ever-changing riverview outside. A modern shower room with a walk-in shower completes the accommodation on this level.
Steep stairs lead up to the third floor where two spacious double bedrooms have been laid out, each with their own lovely views out over the water. The ceilings upstairs are coombed and low in places so may not be suitable for taller guests.
There is usually parking on the street right outside but if not there is plenty of free parking around. At the rear of the property is a shared grassed garden which is a good place to dry washing or enjoy a drink of an evening.
Broughty Ferry itself is a lovely seaside town that is known as the ‘jewel in Dundee’s crown’. The town’s main attraction is the wonderful long sandy beach and seafront walkway that are both great to have a wander along whilst taking in the beautiful view.
There are plenty of places to head to for a meal out and they are all in easy walking distance. The town also has various grocery shops, bakers, butchers and supermarkets for supplies. Several excellent golf courses can be found nearby including the famous Carnoustie (10 miles) and, of course, St Andrews (16.5 miles).
Pirate Boats offer boat tours on the River Tay allowing the local scenery to be seen from the unique perspective of the water whilst looking out for bottle nose dolphins. For something a bit different there are tours that run on a luxury vintage bus so the sights can be enjoyed in comfort and style.
Broughty Ferry Castle dates back to 1495 and now houses an interesting museum with exhibits that illustrate the history of the town. Right by it is a play park that children will love and a crazy golf course that will appeal to both kids and adults alike.
As the bustling city of Dundee is only 4 miles away it can be explored with ease and is only a 6 minute journey by train if you prefer to leave the car behind. Bikes and even electric bikes can be hired for zipping around the streets and the V & A Design Museum on the waterfront is not only a very interesting building architecturally but inside is a celebration of everything design-related from around the world.
