With its large windows and double height ceiling, the main living area at the heart of the house is very bright and inviting, seamlessly combining the seating, dining and kitchen areas. Sliding glass doors lead on to the patio outside allowing the space to be opened up even further and it has all been set up perfectly just for two people.
The cosy bedroom is a chic sanctuary giving guests the chance to really stretch out on its huge, super king-size bed. Everything has been thought of in the contemporary shower room where there is a large walk-in monsoon shower, fluffy robes and slippers provided and the welcome added luxury of underfloor heating. Anyone who can’t quite tear themselves away from work can make use of the handy little study that is also on this level.
The cherry on top of this very tasty cake can be found out on the south-facing patio where a wood-fired outdoor bath offers a truly unique bathing experience under the stars. The covered outdoor seating area with blankets and cushions can be made good use of no matter what the weather and it is the ideal place to while away evenings cuddled up around the firepit.
There will be a riot of colourful wildflowers in the garden once it has bedded into its surroundings and parking space can be found right by the front door.
There are walks off into Glen Lyon all around and a warm welcome awaits at the hotel in Fortingall (1 mile), where the bar and restaurant allows guests to enjoy a drink or a meal with someone else dealing with the washing up afterwards.
The charming village with its thatched houses has a ‘claim to fame’ as it is home to the famous Fortingall Yew tree which sits in the churchyard. While its exact age is unknown it is said to be over 5,000 years old and is one of the oldest trees in Britain!
Highland 4x4 Safaris are available with an incredibly knowledgeable kilted guide who has over 30 years’ experience and can show off the hidden gem sights that are a bit more off the beaten track. He can also offer an insight into the area’s wonderful history, legends and folklore which is a real treat.
On the banks of Loch Tay at Kenmore (6 miles) the Mains of Taymouth 9-hole golf course is a good place to fit in a round or two or, those who prefer taking to the water can jump on a boat trip from Taymouth Marina (6.5 miles).
The Scottish Crannog Centre further round the loch will soon be back to its former glory once its replica crannog loch dwelling, which was unfortunately damaged by fire, has been rebuilt. The centre itself is still open and the workshops that they run on Iron Age crafts such as pottery and leather pouch making are an interesting and fun way to spend a morning.
No visit to the area would be complete without a drive into Aberfeldy (9 miles) to visit the well known Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery, walk the scenic Birks of Aberfeldy circular walking route or discover the fascinating architecture of 16th century Castle Menzies.
