Nestled in a tranquil glen in Highland Perthshire, just 13 miles from Blairgowrie, Dalnashee Lodge boasts stunning views of the Spittal of Glenshee and Cairngorms National Park. With its curved, timber-clad exterior, grass roof, and eco-friendly design, the lodge blends seamlessly into the landscape and is only minutes from the renowned Cateran Trail.
Newly built to minimise environmental impact, this unique, barrel-shaped property features a spectacular open-plan living area with floor-to-ceiling glass frontage, offering uninterrupted views of the surrounding hills. Guests may even catch glimpses of passing red deer, golden eagles, red kites, and red squirrels.
Inside, the lodge’s curved wooden walls, oak floors, and solid wooden doors echo its natural, eye-catching exterior. Eco-friendly features such as rain chains, a green roof, and an infra-red heating system perfectly combine sustainability with style and comfort.
A large glass door separates the living area from the light-filled entrance hall, where outdoor jackets and shoes can be kept. A wood-lined corridor leads from the hall to the rooms at the rear of the property, including a spacious and well-planned family shower-room, a handy utility room with a washer dryer and three attractive bedrooms.
The master bedroom features a super-king size bed and a shower room, the double bedroom has a king-size bed and the twin room has two single beds. All three bedrooms echo the simple Scandinavian-inspired colours and furnishings used throughout Dalnashee Lodge and also have excellent storage space and specially-designed recessed windows looking onto Dalnashee’s countryside and wildlife.
Dalnashee Lodge is pet-friendly but, as there are sheep in nearby fields, care should be taken. Parking is available and the private garden, which is encircled by a fenced expanse of grass, is ideal for relaxing, playing, barbeques - and star watching / moon gazing in the dark skies that encompass Dalnashee Lodge when night falls.
Located in Highland Perthshire, Dalnashee Lodge is ideally placed for walking, cycling and mountain biking. There are many routes right on the doorstep, including the historic Cateran Trail, the Cairngorms Mountains and the spectacular Angus Glens. In addition, the ski slopes of Glenshee Ski Centre are a 20-minute drive away – and the chair lift now operates all year round, providing easier access to the Munros that overlook Dalnashee Lodge.
Dalnashee Lodge is on the edge of Cairngorms National Park, one of the best areas on the UK for wildlife watching. Look out for three of Scotland’s Big 5 - golden eagles, red squirrels and red deer - while the fourth, otters, may be spotted 15 miles away at Loch of The Lowes Nature Reserve, which is also an osprey nesting site.
Despite the wonderful sensation of being away from it all that comes with a break at Dalnashee, there are two pubs within 6 miles: The Glen Isla Hotel (5 miles) and The Bridge of Cally Hotel (5.4 miles). There’s also a Post Office at Bridge of Cally, a village shop in Kirkmichael (6 miles) and the bustling town of Blairgowrie (13 miles) has two supermarkets and a good choice of places to eat and drink. Perth (28 miles), with its theatre, restaurants and excellent shopping streets, can be reached within an hour while Edinburgh and Aberdeen are also within easy driving distance (both 72 miles away).
The rich history of this corner of Scotland is clearly visible in the hunting lodges and castles dotted across the countryside. Magnificent Glamis Castle (22 miles) can be reached in about an hour or take a 32-mile drive over the Spittal of Glenshee to Royal Deeside and Balmoral Castle, the Royal Family’s holiday home, which is open to the public from April to July. Alternatively, head towards Perth and Scone Place, ancient home of the Stone of Destiny, which is now on display at Perth Museum (28 miles).
Drive 18 miles through beautiful Glen Isla to Kirriemuir, birthplace of JM Barrie, creator of Peter Pan, and childhood home of rock icon Bon Scott, lead singer of ACDC and the inspiration for the town’s Bon Fest, which takes place every spring.
For golfers, there are several excellent courses close to Dalnashee Lodge, including Blairgowrie’s Championship Courses, Rosemount and Lansdowne, Alyth Golf Course and it’s 9-hole neighbour, Glen Isla (12 miles). For a links game, Carnoustie Championship and Montrose Golf Links - home to the fifth oldest golf course in the world – are just over 40 miles away.
Fishing is available at nearby Auchentaple Loch (6.5 miles) and also on the River Isla, River Ericht and the Blackwater River, which runs by Dalnashee Lodge.
