The cottage is laid out over three floors and provides spacious and cosy accommodation throughout. The cosy sitting room has a multi-fuel stove at its heart with plenty of comfortable seating. The kitchen is well-equipped with a lovely large range cooker and a dining area alongside by the open fire that is perfect for lingering over evening meals. A neat utility room houses the laundry facilities and leads through to the modern shower room that has a large walk-in shower.
On the lower ground floor is a further comfortable sitting room with an electric stove, so there is plenty of room to spread out into. With a TV/DVD in each of the sitting rooms, the setup is particularly good if you can’t quite agree on what to watch.
Upstairs are two spacious bedrooms, a double and a twin, that are both light, bright and attractively presented. There is also a handy additional WC on this level.
Outside, steps lead up to a charming enclosed grassed garden (furniture) that has a lovely sea view to sit back and admire. Parking is down in the harbour and it is just a two minute walk up the steps to the cottage (not suited for those with limited mobility).
Gardenstown is set on beautiful Gomrie Bay where the lovely sandy beach and its rockpools just beg to be explored.
There is a pub in easy walking distance and an excellent restaurant overlooking the harbour where you can watch the boats bobbing away in the water as you eat.
Heading towards Pennan (4.5 miles) the RSPB Reserve at Troup Head is the site of Scotland’s only mainland gannet colony, as well as having puffins, kittiwakes, guillemots, and razorbills. The clifftop reserve is also the ideal place to spot porpoises, minke whales and dolphins in the waters offshore. A footpath runs out to it from Crovie (2 miles) and it takes about an hour to walk there along the beautiful coastline.
At Macduff (8 miles) there is a golf course right on the coast that welcomes visitors with some amazing sea views to take in as you play. It also has petrol station and a wonderful marine aquarium that children are sure to love. There are lots of interesting displays, a touch tank and a living reef. You can even watch the divers hand-feeding the fish if you time your visit just right.
There is a small supermarket at Banff (9.5 miles), but for really stocking up on supplies Fraserburgh (15.5 miles), along the coast to the east, is the place. There is also a long stretch of sandy beach there, as well as another golf course and a leisure centre offering snooker, pool, indoor bowling and 10 pin bowling.
