Tucked away in a quiet wooded valley is Logies Croft, a charming cottage offering spacious, contemporary accommodation near the town of Elgin (6 miles). It is perfectly placed for exploring the scenic Moray coastline that is only 20 minutes’ drive away.
What may seem like a traditional country house from the exterior will certainly impress guests on further investigation. Chic and stylish throughout, it has been cleverly laid out to maximise the available space and is kept cosy by underfloor heating and an eco-friendly heat recovery system. The full height, open plan living area has distinct areas for cooking, eating and relaxing in and a very warm and welcoming ambience, particularly once a fire is crackling away in the central wood-burning stove.
Open stairs lead up to the mezzanine level where the stunning master bedroom stretches all the way to the back of the cottage. It is light and airy with its roof windows and glass balustrades separating it from the living area below and has the added bonus of its own modern en suite shower room that supplements the downstairs shower room. Both of the attractive bedrooms have been designed with flexibility in mind as they can be configured with either a huge super king-size double bed or twin beds as needed.
To the rear, a lovely covered area has been created with seating and a wood-fired Dutch tub that can be made good use of no matter what the weather. With the lack of light pollution nearby it is a great place to enjoy the dark night skies from with a spot of star gazing.
Logie’s sister property, Hunters Croft, sits on the same site so they can accommodate larger parties or families wanting to stay near each other. They each have their own parking area and designated enclosed garden and share a Scandinavian-style BBQ hut that seats up to 10, a games room and a wooden play area that children will adore.
This region is known as a particularly dry and sunny part of Scotland so it is offers perfect conditions for exploring some of the many beaches that are strung along the pretty coastline, for example at Lossiemouth (11 miles), Findhorn (11.5 miles) and Nairn (20 miles).
Forres (10 miles) has a beautiful 18-hole golf course that was designed by James Braid and Willie Park and has a particularly challenging 16th hole that is played over a pond so must be tackled with care!
Those with an interest in history will enjoy exploring Spynie Palace (8 miles) which was the seat of the Bishops of Moray for over 500 years from the 14th century. Only ruins of the fortified palace remain but David’s Tower is relatively intact and stairs lead up to the top where amazing views can be taken in.
The Moray Monster Trails (15.5 miles) are an excellent range of graded mountain biking trails with everything from blue trails for the less experienced (such as The Soup Dragon and The Haggis) to the orange Fochabers Freeride trail for more extreme riders. There is also a skills area that is ideal to practise on before heading out.
The croft is only around an hour’s drive from the beauty of stunning Loch Ness (42 miles) for a spot of Nessie hunting and just under an hour’s drive from Inverness if a day in the city beckons. The ‘capital of the highlands’ can easily be reached by train from Forres which only takes half an hour.
