Lots to See and Do
Perhaps the best know of these three villages is Aboyne, rich in history with its majestic castle not far from the village centre, where the Highland Games are held each year in August.
Ballater, just 11 miles to the west, was founded in the 19th century and has a quintessentially Victorian feel about it. It's train station, used by the royal family for over 100 years to get to and from their Scottish retreat at Balmoral Castle, is now a popular visitor attraction and is well worth a look. The slightly larger town of Banchory lies to the east of Aboyne and has delightful High Street just perfect for a spot of shopping for holiday mementos!
