The thoughtful owners have put a lot of care and effort into ensuring that everything required is provided here and much more besides. After spending busy days out and about exploring the comfy L-shaped seating in the sitting room just begs to be stretched out on whilst watching a welcoming fire crackling away in the inset wood-burning stove. The kitchen is incredibly spacious with banquette seating set out around the dining table creating a cosy corner to linger over meals all together.
With two light and bright double bedrooms (one with en suite shower room), an attractive twin bedroom and a family bathroom with drying rack, the accommodation inside the house well and truly rivals the wonderful, extensive grounds outside.
A path meanders amongst the mature shrubs and trees by the huge lawn to a lovely picnic seating area and large summerhouse. This great addition is not just for use in the summer however, as it has its own wood-burning stove that makes it an ideal sanctuary all year round. The stove can also be used as a pizza oven or simply a delightful place to sit and toast marshmallows of an evening.
To the front of the house a gravelled area provides parking space for 3 or more cars and there is table football in the garage along with storage for shutting bikes, etc away safely. Children will love the trampoline and playhouse (with slide) in the garden and a gate leads out into the surrounding woodland and Loch Vaa for walking, fishing and wildlife spotting opportunities.
For larger parties of guests wishing to enjoy holidaying together Mallard can be combined with its sister property Mallachie, which sits just a few doors away and sleeps up to 8 additional guests.
A short walk along part of the Speyside Way leads into Boat of Garten where the village shop has provisions and a choice of restaurants can be sampled. The afternoon teas at The Boat are particularly tasty and there is the option of adding a glass of Prosecco for an extra treat.
The area is well known for the nearby RSPB reserve at Loch Garten (3.5 miles) that a pair of ospreys return to every year to breed. In the visitor centre large screens display a CCTV feed with a fascinating closeup of the nest and there is lots of other birdlife to spot around the site.
At the Boat of Garten Golf Club the very scenic 18 hole course has wonderful views from the fairways and there are tennis courts if that is the preference. Kids will enjoy a day trip to the Landmark Forest Adventure Park (5 miles) where a dinosaur walk, butterfly sanctuary, climbing walls and aerial adventure courses are just come of the delights that can be found.
Cyclists will enjoy making use of the woodland paths behind the house and there are a choice of graded mountain biking trails on the Glenlivet Estate (20 miles) or the Laggan Wolftrax at Strathmashie (32 miles). There is also a pumptrack within the village that is great fun for all the family.
Give canoeing, kayaking or stand up paddleboarding a go on the sparkling waters of either Loch Morlich (12 miles) or Loch Insh (14 miles) where archery, tubing, windsurfing or dry slope skiing are on offer as well. For fun on the real slopes it is an easy drive to the Cairngorm Mountain ski resort (15 miles).
