Katie's Cottage is a real old Highland croft house (now beautifully refurbished) on the Amat Estate about 7 miles from Ardgay in Sutherland.

It stands on a tiny road which ends just a little further up the glen.
The layout of the interior is in true traditional style. Downstairs is a most comfortable sitting room with its elegant Victorian fireplace, the colour of which has been perfectly picked up in the stylish soft furnishings. Across the hallway is a large dining kitchen equipped with all modern conveniences. It is light and bright with its quality wood flooring and additional comfortable seating giving guests the choice of where to relax at different times of the day.
The whole cottage has been most lovingly and carefully restored with no sacrifice of its intrinsic charm and character. There is a great level of comfort here and guests repeatedly comment on the cottage's year-round cosiness.
There is also a utility room and bathroom and upstairs are two bedrooms, both with coombed ceilings.
In this sublimely peaceful setting, you can escape from your everyday cares. The cottage will particularly appeal to those who enjoy the great outdoors as well as those who simply want to relax in lovely and private surroundings.
People come to the area either for walking - a road just across the River Carron from the cottage becomes a gated track on which you can walk all the way to Ullapool, a mere 30 miles! You can also fish locally - permits for the Kyle of Sutherland are available in Bonar Bridge.
There is a train halt at Ardgay and Bonar Bridge, just a further mile from there, has all facilities, including a golf course.
Exploring further afield, you can make for the northwest coast, passing the spectacular Falls of Shin on the way, go north to John O' Groats (perhaps visiting Dunrobin Castle en route) or visit Dornoch with its fabulous beach and Championship golf course, or the beautiful Black Isle.
Katie's Cottage is a perfect base for being as relaxed or energetic as you desire.

Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED. The first £20 of electricity INCLUDED with any additional usage payable by meter reading at the end of your stay. Heating is by oil central heating (first £20 INCLUDED with any additional usage payable at the end of your stay) and open fire (coal INCLUDED). WiFi is INCLUDED. Water is from a private source which is UV filtered and regularly tested; however (as is typical in many parts of Scotland) it can become discoloured, particularly after heavy rainfall. Guests may therefore prefer to bring bottled water to drink. A maximum of 2 dogs are welcome at an additional charge (2 medium or 2 small). If you wish to bring any other pets please contact us and we will see what we can do. No smoking.
