Overview

What was originally a traditional, crofting cottage has been imaginatively extended and brought up-to-date with much care and attention to create the warmest of welcomes. Once parked up on arrival the wonderful setting is immediately evident as the view from the garden out over farmland to Loch Fleet and the sea on the horizon can’t help but captivate even the weariest of travellers.

Inside, the stunning and spacious open plan living area is a very sociable place to spend time. The sea views are shown off further by grand picture windows on two sides and a telescope is set up for a closer look or simply to see what wildlife can be spotted. Glass doors head out to the patio dining area where atmospheric lighting makes it just as inviting in the evenings as it is during the daytime.

Those who love cooking will find themselves spoilt here as everything required is provided as well as a huge range cooker that has 7 different burners and 3 ovens to make light work of the family roast dinner. A handy shower room is also on this level and a single bedroom that is available by arrangement (at an additional charge) if preferred. The snug, which has its own wood-burning stove set in a lovely stone feature fireplace, provides a cosy hideaway to escape to for peace and quiet if need be and there is the added luxury of oil-fired underfloor heating.

Upstairs, attractive double and twin bedrooms can be found along with the delightful master double room that has been positioned to showcase the best views in the house from its glass gable end. It really is quite the way to wake up in the morning! As well as the shower room downstairs there is the choice of the bathroom with a bath and separate shower up by the bedrooms. Admire the seascape whilst dining on the patio that has a large lawn alongside which children and pets will enjoy taking over. Once the main gate is shut the garden is enclosed with a generous parking/turning area and the soothing sound of birds chirping in the trees.

Map & Local

Whilst touring around the area it is a good chance to stop off at the Trentham Hotel (1 mile) to try some tasty food in its restaurant. The Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve (1 mile) has trails leading around the tidal basin and wildlife hides overlooking the loch for an excellent look at the resident birdlife (including ospreys), otters and seals without disturbing them.

Pop along to Dornoch (4 miles) for a wander around the town’s collection of interesting shops before heading to the lovely beach for a seaside stroll. The long stretch of sand seems to go on forever and when the tide is out, it is the perfect time to have a poke around the rockpools.

Dornoch is also home to the Royal Dornoch golf course, where the impressive 18 hole championship links course is known as an absolute ‘must play’ and there is also the choice of the Struie links course that offers 18 holes for those with higher handicaps.

Anyone who prefers getting out and about on two wheels will want to tackle the four waymarked, graded Highland Wildcat mountain biking trails near Golspie (7.5 miles). Near Golspie the magnificent, turreted Dunrobin Castle and its gorgeous gardens are a great place to spend an afternoon walking the grounds, taking in a falconry display or joining a fascinating tour of the castle’s interior.

It is worth the drive down to Cromarty (46 miles) for one of Eco Ventures’ thrilling wildlife watching boat trips from which dolphins can be seen out in the Moray Firth. There is even a hydrophone onboard so it is possible to hear the charming sounds they make as they enjoy their natural habitat.
