The Weavers, near Rogart is a quintessentially traditional highland cottage that is set at the base of Dalmore Rock and was constructed out of Dalmore granite. Nestled on the outskirts of Pittentrail, it provides the ideal starting point for exploration of both the east coast on its doorstep and delving deeper into the scenic Sutherland countryside. The seaside resort town of Dornoch is just a 20 minute drive away, and only a 14 minute drive from the Loch Fleet Nature Reserve.
The owners of this traditional Highland croft house, which dates back to the mid-1800s, have carefully renovated it whilst managing to preserve all of its charm and numerous wonderful original features.
At the heart of the cosy sitting room is an impressive granite fireplace that is now equipped with a coal effect stove where the black range and hub of family life would once have been. Off the hallway is the kitchen, which is fitted with all modern conveniences and cleverly incorporates a dining area and breakfast bar to help streamline meal times.
Additionally, the hallway provides access to a spacious bathroom with both a walk-in shower and free-standing, claw-footed bath for a luxury soak. The comfortable double and twin bedrooms upstairs have lovely views and original wooden coombed ceilings that accentuate the character of the cottage. There is also a little reading snug for those seeking a quiet space to catch up on that long-neglected novel.
Outside is a delightful patio seating area with a great view of Dalmore Rock and the choice of outdoor dining furniture and a charming swing seat in the open garden. The River Fleet flows by at the bottom of the garden with a footbridge and footpath up to the road into the village, or alternatively follow the signs for the round Rogart walk.
Immerse yourself in the untouched beauty of Sutherland and all it has to offer. Whether you are into hiking, wild swimming, birdwatching, golfing, visiting historic castles or whiskey distilleries – The Weavers Cottage is the ideal base to explore this beautiful part of the world.
Pittentrail (1 mile) offers excellent local amenities with a well-stocked local shop with post office facilities and a handy petrol station. The old Rogart Livestock Mart in the village has been refurbished and re-purposed to hold regular markets and events throughout the year.
A 15 minute drive west is the village of Lairg (9.5 miles), gateway to the dramatic west highlands and north coast, and over on the west coast Ullapool (53 miles) is well worth a visit. Its picturesque harbour is the perfect setting for a leisurely stroll and boat trips head out on Loch Broom for sightseeing and observing the local wildlife such as seals, sea eagles and dolphinsin their natural habitat.
The house is conveniently situated in walking distance from the train station at Rogart (1 mile), offering an effortless way of heading over to Inverness for a day trip. The journey takes just over two hours and leaves plenty of time to explore the sights and attractions of the city on foot.
Golspie (9 miles) is renowned for its expansive stretch of sandy beach that is delightful to take a walk along after exploring the town’s interesting array of shops. Make sure to keep an eye out along the way as many Jurassic era fossils have been uncovered there! The beach consists of two sections, divided by a pier, and makes for a great vantage point for taking in the views out over the Moray Firth.
At the fantastic Dunrobin Castle (10 miles) there is the chance to enjoy a guided tour, wander around the beautiful gardens and admire the stunning architecture or witness one of their captivating falconry displays which really must be experienced first-hand to be fully appreciated.
