Overview

Converted from what was originally an old lobster holding pen this quaint cottage has stunning views out to sea whilst inside having all the creature comforts you could wish for.

The building was converted into a dwelling 20 years ago and has been refurbished and modernised whilst still retaining its stripped pine floors and traditional exposed beams. The spacious kitchen diner is modern and well-equipped with extensive sea views from all the windows. Even doing the washing up seems like less of a chore with this scenery to admire, although you also have the option of the dishwasher! Just off the kitchen is a handy utility room and downstairs WC.

The cosy sitting room has large picture windows and plenty of stylish comfortable seating around the TV (with DVD Blu-ray player) and the cottage also has WiFi access so you can ‘stay connected’. There is a choice of dining in the cottage as there is a useful additional dining area against the attractive exposed brick wall in the sitting room. The whole place is kept warm by the wood-burning stove, electric central heating and the special ‘storm-glazed’ windows that have been installed throughout.

Upstairs, there are two bedrooms, a double and a twin (both en suite). The charming double room has a king size bed and its impressive en suite bathroom features a lovely cast iron roll-top bath, as well as a large separate shower. Both bright and airy bedrooms have coombed ceilings and large windows from which to further admire the captivating sea views. Make sure you keep your binoculars handy in the evening as you may well see the seals basking on the rocks just offshore.

Outside there is parking within Burnmouth or right by the cottage on the seafront.

Map & Local

The village has a pub and a restaurant and the small working harbour is just 200 yards away, where you can buy lobsters and crab direct from the fisherman – you can’t get fresher than that! It is also host to an annual bike race every May, the famous ‘Brae Race’, that draws competitors from all over the country.

The coastline at Lower Burnmouth has been recognised as a ‘Site of Special Scientific Interest’ for its diverse landscape of interesting rock formations, grasslands, vegetation and wildlife.

Eyemouth (3 miles) has a few shops, small supermarkets, pubs and locally renowned fish and chip shops. The Eyemouth Maritime Centre, easily identified in its striking ship-shaped wooden building, is well worth a visit with its boat museum and numerous displays on the area’s maritime history. In the harbour you can feed seals and take boat trips, including the Fast Blast Boat Ride which, as the name suggests, is certainly not for the faint hearted! There is also a small sandy beach and you are within easy reach of the beautiful sprawling sandy beach at Coldingham Bay.

The Chain Bridge Honey Farm (12 miles) is ideal for a family afternoon out. The visitor centre explains the honey making process and you can even see a live hive (fortunately behind glass) and buy some of their honey or homemade honey-based beauty products and candles. There is also a vintage vehicle and memorabilia display and during the summer the double decker bus in the grounds turns into a café.

If you venture a little way into England you will find plenty of shopping, restaurants and pubs at Berwick-upon-Tweed, as well as a mainline railway station. Edinburgh (51 miles) and Newcastle-upon-Tyne (65 miles) can both be reached by rail from here, although they are equally easily accessible by car. The bustling capital Edinburgh is a cultural mecca with plenty of museums, galleries and theatres, as well as endless shopping opportunities and, of course, the imposing Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace.
