Close to Sir Walter Scott's family home at Abbotsford and near the River Tweed, Scott’s Cottage is a beautifully renovated holiday retreat. Conveniently located off the A7, it offers easy access to Galashiels (1 mile), Melrose (3 miles), and Selkirk (4.5 miles).
This traditional stone cottage features a stylish interior that blends timeless design with contemporary comforts. The walls display mixed-media contemporary art, adding unique charm.
The well-equipped kitchen-dining area includes a dishwasher and washing machine, making self-catering holidays easy. A wide archway connects the kitchen to the cosy sitting room, which has a wood-burning stove for relaxing evenings.
The cottage comfortably accommodates up to 4 guests in two spacious bedrooms: a double bedroom and a twin room with a small double bed and a single bed. Both rooms offer lovely views of the walled garden. The shower room features a WC and a hand basin.
The enclosed walled garden is perfect for sunny days, with outdoor seating on a raised deck for meals or relaxation. The spacious garden is ideal for children and pets to explore.
The stunning artwork throughout the cottage was created by local artist Mooie Scott. Known for using multimedia to capture the abstraction of the landscape, Scott’s unique and thought-provoking pieces add a special touch to the cottage. Her works are regularly exhibited across the Scottish Borders.
Galashiels, just 1 mile from the cottage, offers a variety of shops, pubs, and eateries to suit all tastes. The town’s train link makes day trips to Edinburgh easy, with the Scottish capital less than an hour away, perfect for shopping or sightseeing.
The Scottish Borders are full of charming towns and historical sites. Visit Kelso (17.5 miles) with its picturesque cobbled square, or Jedburgh (16.5 miles), home to the Castle Jail & Museum, which offers a fascinating look into 19th-century jail life. Both towns, along with Dryburgh and Melrose, have 12th-century abbeys worth exploring.
Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do in the Borders. Sail at St Mary's Loch (21 miles), or try the new Tweed Valley Canoe Trail, which runs from Stobo Castle (28 miles) to Abbotsford (1.5 miles). The River Tweed, one of Scotland's great salmon rivers, is just down the hill from the cottage, offering excellent fishing spots like Boleside (1 mile).
For biking, the area offers options like the Tweed Cycleway, as well as mountain biking trails at Glentress (18.5 miles) and Innerleithen (14 miles). There are also many road routes and trails. The Border Hills provide excellent walking routes, including the Southern Upland Way, which passes close to Scott’s Cottage.
Garden lovers will enjoy Kailzie (19 miles) and Dawyck Gardens near Peebles (28 miles). History enthusiasts can explore the region’s keeps, castles, and stately homes. With a wide range of activities and sights, the Scottish Borders promises a memorable and diverse holiday experience.

Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED. The first £25 of electricity is (INCLUDED) with any additional usage payable by metre reading at the end of your stay. Heating is by gas central heating (first £50 INCLUDED) and wood-burning stove (starter pack INCLUDED). WiFi is INCLUDED. A maximum of 2 dogs are welcome at an additional charge (1 large, 1 medium, 2 small). If you wish to bring any other pets please contact us and we will see what we can do. No smoking.
