This attractive and substantial detached house has the most restful of situations near Kilmartin and Lochgilphead in the west of Scotland. Accessed by about a mile of private road, it conveys the sense of arriving at somewhere very special indeed.

In front of the house the large, tree-flanked grass garden creates a great sense of peace and privacy, while the interior too reflects the relaxed pace of living of a bygone age. The large, stone-flagged dining kitchen is a particular example of this, whilst also being equipped with all the 'mod cons'.
The wow factor is contributed by the superb, newly built dining conservatory. From there, as darkness falls, you can retreat through the French doors into the elegant sitting room, to toast your toes by the open fire. The master bedroom features a four-poster bed.
It is obvious from the beginning that this is a well-loved family home which will delight those who value traditional character and relaxed comfort above sleek, ultra-modern style statements.
The surrounding area is full of interest. Kilmartin Glen, with its 4,000 year old archaeological treasures, is just up the road, as is Dunadd, the ancient Iron Age hill fortress which became the seat of the Pictish kings of Dalriada.
To the south is the Crinan Canal - cycle from the cottage along the quiet, flat lanes and then along the towpath with hostelries at either end for suitable refreshment! Lochgilphead has all facilities, including a swimming pool and from there you may continue right down the Mull of Kintyre.
There are lovely sandy beaches close by at Crinan, or down the little single track road along Loch Sween, with a wealth of wildlife to spot on land, sea and air. Visit the NT Gardens at Crarae or, further afield, Loch Awe, Seil Island and Oban.
Another possibility would be to take the little ferry which in summer plies from Claonaig near Tarbert, across to the lovely island of Arran. You can drive right round the island, starting from Lochranza with its castle in the bay, visiting the ‘capital’ Brodick and relax on the beach at Blackwaterfoot. Closer to home, you can head down the west shore of Loch Sween to the picturesque yachting haven of Tayvallich and the beach at Carsaig Bay.
