A delightful turret houses an impressive spiral staircase and the house’s origins are reflected in the lovely decorative touches that are dotted around. The double-sided wood-burning stove at the centre of the open plan living area has been beautifully positioned so that it can be enjoyed equally from the comfy seating or the dining table on the other side. There is also a modern utility room and a handy WC on this level, as well as a porch with a seating area.
The spiral staircase with its impressive chandelier leads up to the three bedrooms, all of which have their own smart and slick en suite shower rooms. Two of the rooms are doubles (one of which has a king-size bed) and there is also a pretty twin room.
The striking house is surrounded by an attractive garden with picnic style seating for eating outdoors. Charming traditional style lampposts line the drive and lead to a huge gravelled parking area with space for up to 4 cars. A path from the bottom of the garden provides access to the private stretch of loch frontage for fishing or launching canoes or kayaks.
With its sister property Church Cottage only a short walk away both cottages can be booked by larger parties looking to enjoy a holiday together but still have some of their own privacy and space, etc.
For a meal or drink out Ardbrecknish House is only half a mile away so it is an easy stroll back afterwards or there is the option of the Portsonachan Hotel (1 mile) that has a bar and restaurant offering an a la carte menu.
The ruins of the 15th century Kilchurn Castle (8 miles) sit on a peninsula at the head of Loch Awe, with a jetty jutting out into the water that provides a great vantage point to truly appreciate its beauty from.
Munro baggers will of course want to head to the other side of the loch to tackle Ben Cruachan (14 miles) which takes around 7 to 9 hours to climb. Stunning views can be experienced from the summit so it is certainly worth the effort! Deep beneath the mountain lies the Ben Cruachan Power Station that runs guided tours of the enormous cavern that houses the fascinating station and visitor centre.
Heading to the east, the popular town of Inveraray on the shore of Loch Fyne draws in visitors from all over. At its heart lies impressive Inveraray Castle that is home to the Duke and Duchess of Argyll and recently gained a claim to fame as the setting of an episode of the Downton Abbey TV programme. Tours of the castle are available and its 16 acres of stunning gardens are certainly worth exploring followed by a stop off at the tea room.
