The small town of Inveraray on the shores of Loch Fyne, just over an hour's drive north west of Glasgow via lovely Loch Lomond, is well known for its picturesque black and white houses, which over the years have graced many a scenic calendar.

On the ground floor of one such traditional building, with the added advantage of being right on the loch front, is Para Handy Cottage, a snug and charming holiday home, which has been cunningly renovated to create a delightful sense of space.
Furnished to a high standard, with solid wood floors, an electric stove in the living room and a spacious wetroom shower, it offers comfortable and well-appointed accommodation for a couple or a small family.
Named after the wily skipper of the Clyde 'puffer' in Neil Munro's humorous tales, the cottage has expansive and uninterrupted views across the loch which can be enjoyed from the window seats or the bench on the foreshore outside.
It is just a couple of minutes' walk through the little lanes to the main street with its shops and hostelries, not to mention the town's historic jail, a great destination for a rainy day, where, among other things, visitors can try out an original treadmill!
There is a swimming pool, spa, steam room, sauna and outdoor tub of offer at the Loch Fyne Hotel Spa. The hotel is only a 10 minute walk or quick drive along the main road towards Lochgilphead edge of town, just beyond the Barn Brae turning (past Semple’s garage).
Just outside the town and also within walking distance, is Inveraray Castle and also a golf course. The cottage is also very handily placed for exploring further afield either northwest, via Loch Awe, to Oban and the west coast, or south to the Mull of Kintyre, with its fine beaches and the possibility of ferries to Arran and Gigha.
The NT gardens at Crarae, the Benmore Botanic Gardens near Dunoon (while there, explore atmospheric Puck's Glen on the other side of the road) and the woodland gardens at Ardkinglas are all within an easy drive. There is good walking in the surrounding hills and horse riding, fishing and sailing are all available locally.
Loch Fyne is, of course, world-renowned for its sea food - the famous Loch Fyne Oyster Bar is just up the road at the head of the loch, and, understandably, most of the hotels and restaurants in the area feature these delicacies.
