Overview

Inside the open plan layout is centred around an impressive double height sitting room with an entire wall of glass that showcases the amazing view of the loch. The modern kitchen is very spacious and light with plenty of space for cooking and a dining area alongside where you can gather together for evening meals.

Also on the ground floor is a handy utility room and a twin bedroom with an en suite shower room that can also be accessed from the dining area.

Upstairs the attractive master double bedroom has a stylish en suite bathroom with a bath and separate walk-in shower and there is another pleasant twin room that makes use of an additional separate shower room.

Outside is a charming deck and covered seating area that has a wonderful outlook of the loch and is the perfect spot for al fresco breakfasts or evening drinks. There is direct access to the shore and a stone jetty for launching small craft. For larger boats there are public pontoons and a slipway only a short walk away along with visitor moorings in the bay (care should be taken with children and pets due to deep water).

Map & Local

Tayvallich’s shop/café is just a couple of minutes’ walk from the cottage and it is a very picturesque stroll as it follows along the shoreline of Loch Sween.

Further round the loch but still in easy walking distance is an award-winning inn that specialises in delicious, fresh local seafood. It has an outdoor seating area so that you can admire the loch as you eat and watch the boats and yachts bobbing in the bay. You may also spot people kayaking and water skiing in the summer, when watersports become a popular pastime.

There are lots of lovely walks in the area and a particularly nice one leads to the sandy beach at Carsaig Bay (1.25 miles). It is a great spot to relax and take in the wonderful views out over the Sound of Jura and some dramatic sunsets in the evening.

In addition to the local shop, the nearest place to stock up on supermarket supplies is Lochgilphead (12 miles) where there are also a range of interesting little independent shops and eateries. The town also has a swimming pool and a golf course that welcomes visitors with day or week tickets available.

It is well worth taking a trip to picturesque Crinan (8 miles). This pretty coastal village is known for its famous canal, which can be explored on foot or by bike (bike hire available), or you may prefer picnic on the banks of the canal whilst watching the boats negotiating the series of locks. You can hire a boat at Crinan Harbour or book one of the boat trips that run out to the fascinating Corryvreckan whirlpool or the beautiful Isle of Jura.

Jura is famous for its whisky and tours of the distillery are available for you to sample a ‘wee dram’ for yourself. The island is also known as a wildlife mecca, with lots of dolphins, seals and otters, as well as many rare birds including sea eagles and golden eagles.

There are lots of other sandy beaches dotted along the shores of Loch Sween as you drive down it. History enthusiasts will particularly enjoy a stop at Castle Sween (16 miles), one of the earliest castles in Scotland that is thought to date as far back as the 12th century as well as the Kilmartin museum and prehistoric landscape at Dunadd Hill Fort.
