It may be hard to drag oneself away from the everchanging scene out on the water but, once inside, the cottage offers a warm welcome to one and all. With the best of the loch views able to be appreciated from the comfort of the sofa, it is easy to absorb the relaxing setting and fully wind down here. Be sure to keep an eye out for the wildlife that frequent the loch as golden and sea eagles are just two of the species that have be spotted.
Cosy evenings can be spent lingering over meals in the dining room where the wood-burning stove complements the inviting ambience. The layout is very practical with the neat kitchen just off the dining room and there is the added bonus of a bathroom downstairs, which always comes in handy.
Roof windows in the bedrooms upstairs, a double and a twin, keep them lovely and bright whilst showing off the loch vista. They both lie off the spacious landing with another bathroom set out between the two.
Kids and pets alike will enjoy taking to the huge expanse of lawn at the front of the house to run around and let off some steam. The expansive view of the loch can’t help but captivate at every turn and there is a gate that leads directly out to the stony shoreline (care to be taken with children).
The house is reached by 150 metres of loose surfaced track that should be driven slowly and there is lots of space for parking provided in the gravelled area right by the door. Kennels are available behind the house by arrangement should they be required.
Please note: Guests should book their ferry tickets over to Lewis with CalMac ferries at the same time as booking their accommodation to ensure availability.
Fishing can be arranged with the estate on nearby Loch Langabhat where boats can be taken out to try to catch salmon and brown trout, etc. There are also four miles of loch shoreline that can be fished and, with 8,000 acres of estate to explore, even the keenest walkers will find plenty to keep them busy.
The ferry from Ullapool on the mainland arrives into Stornoway (23 miles) which is the main settlement on Lewis. It is also the place for supermarket shopping en route or to pop back to for a round of golf on the picturesque 18 hole course after settling in.
Another way of getting to Lewis is to drive over to the Isle of Skye and jump on the ferry from Uig, arriving into Tarbert (13 miles) in just over an hour and a half. Tarbert is also home to the Isle of Harris Distillery where tours of the amazing operation that produces this famous gin are available.
Guests will be spoilt for choice as to where to spend beachy days as there are a number of magnificent sandy beaches dotted around the scenic coastline. One of the nicest, which is only half an hour’s drive away, is Luskentyre beach (23 miles). This beautifully unspoilt stretch of almost pure white sand has to be seen to be believed and is an idyllic place to walk, beachcomb or practise yoga in total relaxation.
Heading south into Harris, a stop off at the Harris Tweed Shop (13 miles) is an absolute must. Harris Tweed is recognisable the world over and the shop has an amazing array of clothes, accessories and even soft furnishings in their high quality, traditional tweed. There are also fabric lengths on offer for crafty types to make their own creations with.
