This impressive newly built house offers stylish accommodation throughout and makes a great base for exploring the area and the array of activities that are on offer nearby. The vast sitting room is very warm and inviting with its cosy seating and cassette wood-burning stove built into the wall. It is partly open plan to the spacious dining kitchen that is very well-equipped and even has a warming drawer that is handy for warming up plates. A separate utility room neatly houses the laundry facilities and there is also a study and shower room on this level.
With a super king-size bed to stretch out on, a walk-in dressing room and en suite shower room, the master suite upstairs is a real delight, with one wall made entirely of glass to showcase loch views that can be seen without even getting out of bed!
Also upstairs are two further attractive double bedrooms (one en suite), a twin bedroom and a large family bathroom with a lovely freestanding bath that complete the accommodation in the main house.
The adjoining annexe (not let separately) sleeps 3 further people and has its own open plan living area (upstairs) with kitchen, as well as a double bedroom, single bedroom and modern bathroom - ideal for giving additional guests their own privacy.
The charming little summerhouse in the grounds has a wood-burning stove and a wonderful outlook out across the water to the little pepper pot lighthouse on the opposite shore and stunning views down the loch towards Ben Nevis and the Nevis mountain range. There is a path that leads right down to the water's edge so care should be taken, particularly with children.
Spean Bridge (4.5 miles), known for its Commando Memorial, has a shop for basic supplies, a hotel restaurant (with takeaway fish and chip shop) and Spean Bridge Woollen Mill where you can pick up whisky, knitwear and even tartan.
Walkers can join the Great Glen Way walking trail that runs near the house and then heads along the banks of Thomas Telford’s famous Caledonian Canal. The route runs all the way down to Fort William where there are plenty of places to stop off for lunch or dinner.
Fort William (10 miles) is known as the 'outdoor capital of the UK' with lots of activities to try from skiing and snowboarding at the ski resort to mountain biking on the Witches Trails or sea kayaking on Loch Eil.
Whilst in Fort William it is worth stopping off at The Ben Nevis Distillery for a tour or tasting session, or simply to buy some whisky to take home. History enthusiasts will want to pay a visit to the West Highland Museum for a fascinating insight into Highland life.
Half an hour’s walk out of Fort William brings you to the An Steall Ban, Scotland’s second highest waterfall, which is particularly dramatic after heavy rainfall. Negotiate the rope bridge across the river for an even closer view of the falls but make sure to wear appropriate footwear to do so.
Just north of Fort William is 'Neptune’s Staircase', an impressive staircase lock comprised of 8 different locks that climb up over 60 feet – it is quite a sight to witness.
