Overview

Inside, the main living accommodation is open plan and has been laid out for maximum enjoyment of the amazing loch vista. Relaxed, L-shaped seating is laid out by the window with the kitchen area to one side and a dining nook tucked away in the corner. It is light and bright throughout and is kept cosy by a fire that crackles away in the wood-burning stove. The marvellous view is framed by French doors that lead out to the loch-facing deck.

The comfy double bedroom and single room with a double bed both have lovely views out towards the water and there is also a second single room. In the family bathroom there is a bath with a shower over it and a spacious utility room houses the laundry facilities and provides handy storage for coats, etc.

The grounds of the house lead right down to the pebbly shore of the loch and there is also a hammock to relax in whilst taking in the ever-changing scene spread out ahead. Alongside the house is a carport that is a useful space for storing bikes and wetsuits and there is a small stream within the grounds (care should be taken).

Designated roadside parking is available with a steep set of 70 steps that leads down to the back of the house (not suitable for those with limited mobility). Vehicular access is possible but involves driving across the stone beach which can only be done at low tide and requires a suitable vehicle, preferably a 4x4.

Map & Local

Ardnamurchan Charters is only a short walk away and offers wildlife spotting boat trips on the loch with otters, herons, seals and porpoise being just some of the delights to look out for. They also hire out boats for anyone wishing to fish or try out the role of Captain for the day.

Wildlife lovers will enjoy visiting the Glenborrodale Nature Reserve (1.5 miles) where a variety of different birds thrive including skylarks, redstarts and even huge golden eagles that have a wingspan that can measure over 2 metres wide!

A short drive away is the Ardnamurchan Distillery (3.5 miles) that refers to itself as Scotland’s greenest distillery due to the renewable energy it uses within its production. A range of different tours can be taken with knowledgeable guides that explain the whisky distillation process, followed by an all-important tasting.

The peninsula benefits from the effects of the Gulf Stream creating a mild microclimate that is perfect for getting out exploring some of the nearby unspoilt beaches, such as the gorgeous stretch of white sand in Sanna Bay that just begs to be explored no matter what the weather. There are two beaches at Ardtoe (12 miles) to the north that are both equally beautiful and nice and sheltered so they are ideal for paddling or investigating the rock pools.

Ardnamurchan Point (20 miles) is surprisingly the most westerly point of mainland Britain. It is marked by a lighthouse that dates back to 1849 and is still in operation to this day, although it has been automated for some time now. It is possible to climb right to the top of the lighthouse for some absolutely breath-taking views out to sea and the chance to spot whales and sometimes even basking sharks out in the water.
