Inside, the wood-burning stove is the focal point of the generously sized sitting room that is sure to be where everyone gathers together in the evenings. It is partly open to a spacious and light dining kitchen with patio doors leading out to the garden.
The kitchen has lots of space for cooking and the breakfast bar provides further informal seating. There is also a useful little utility room for laundry and space for hanging coats, etc.
All on one level off a central corridor are the two double bedrooms (king-size), one of which has a modern en suite shower room, and a twin room. There is a bathroom with the choice of a bath or shower and the house also has good green credentials due to the air source underfloor heating that keeps it cosy throughout.
There is plenty of off road parking at the front of the house and amazing views to the sea shore and the Summer Isles beyond can be admired from the garden. A handy drying area is to the rear and there is a small stream that runs through the garden so care should be taken, particularly with children.
Just 5 minutes’ walk along the road is the Am Fuaran bar that serves excellent meals including plenty of freshly caught seafood.
The well stocked shop in Achiltibuie (3.5 miles) is handy for stocking up on supplies and is also the place to fill up on fuel as it is the only petrol station in a 25 mile radius. Just past Achiltibuie, the Summer Isles Hotel (closed over winter) offers fine dining in its restaurant or informal meals in its bar, with outdoor decked seating to enjoy in good weather.
Hamlet Mountaineering runs guided rock climbing and scrambling expeditions on some of the many mountainous ridges in the region and Norwest Sea Kayaking have a base in Achiltibuie offering the chance to see the rugged landscape from a unique perspective on the water.
A 10 minute drive brings you to the unspoilt Achnahaird beach, known as one of the best beaches in Scotland, with beautiful white sands and amazing views of the surrounding mountains. The area around the beach is a nature reserve that is great for spotting wildlife including golden eagles and pine martens.
Boat trips run from Old Dorney Harbour (1.5 miles) for exploring the Summer Isles with lots of seabirds and a delightful seal colony to see along the way. Boat charter hire is also available for taking to the seas yourself.
The house is on the boundary of the North West Highlands Geopark that was awarded UNESCO geopark status in 2004. The Rock Stop (36 miles) is the central hub of the park where there the visitor centre/café offers a fascinating insight into the park’s geology and highlights the best sights to visit.
Heading south it is worth taking the drive to Ullapool (25 miles), a very picturesque town with a pretty palm tree lined harbour, charming shops to wander around and an 9 hole golf course to try out.
