With a gorgeous loch vista to the front and dramatic mountain views to the rear, guests at Roselea are in for a real treat spending time in this magical setting overlooking Upper Loch Torridon in the west coast village of Torridon.
This traditional cottage is one of a string of houses dotted along the coast in this surprisingly well catered for settlement, that has a shop in easy walking distance and a hotel restaurant just 5 minutes’ drive away. Cosiness and comfort combine in its sitting room where both the TV and the wood-burning stove can be admired, if the loch views don’t prove to be too much of a distraction that is.
A second wood-burning stove keeps everything nice and toasty in the attractive dining room which then leads through to the bright and airy kitchen that looks out onto the flowers in the garden.
Dormer windows in the upstairs bedrooms at the front of the cottage further showcase the water and there are two beautifully presented double bedrooms and a neat single room to choose from as well as a modern shower room.
A gravelled garden area by the door allows the ever-changing loch scene to be taken in and to the rear lots of vivid rhododendrons add a beautiful riot of colour. The impressive cliffside towers up behind the house and charming bird song punctuates the sound of the little trickling waterfall (care to be taken).

With the village shop (with licensed café) just a couple of minutes’ walk away it is very handy to be able to pop along there for that forgotten pint of milk or stop off for a bacon roll whilst taking in the loch.
It is worth stocking up on supplies before travelling to Torridon as the nearest supermarket is over in Dingwall (50 miles), although one of the supermarkets does deliver to the local community centre which can be a good option.
A whole host of activities are on offer at Torridon Outdoor (2.5 miles) with guided walks, mountain biking, gorge scrambling, snorkelling and coasteering as well as the rather more sedate choices of archery and clay pigeon shooting. Brush up on the golfing skills on the lovely coastal 9 hole course in Gairloch (30 miles) or stop at the sandy beach on the edge of the village to take in the amazing sunset.
There are lots of pretty villages strung out along the coastline here and Plockton (41 miles) is particularly picturesque with its palm tree lined harbour and seal boat trips that make for a lovely excursion. It is also a great place to try out sea kayaking or stand up paddle boarding (SUP) amidst the beautiful scenery of Loch Carron.
City adventures can be had in Inverness which is roughly an hour and a half’s drive away or about the same by train from Achnasheen (20 miles). Just outside the city are the Clava Cairns, a Bronze Age burial site that has in recent years gained fame thanks to its starring role in the popular TV series Outlander. Whilst over on the east coast it would be a shame not to visit the iconic Loch Ness and historic Culloden Battlefield, both of which are only a short drive from Inverness.

Well equipped cottage. It could do with a bit of TLC such as new/ refurbishment of kitchen cabinets, bed in main room wasn’t overly comfortable despite the topper, didn’t use grill/top oven as it was greasy, a tidy of the garden.
Only quibbles - lacking information particularly about bin days. It was recycling week once I’d looked it up on the council website but the bin was already so full and heavy I was unable to move it.
My other issue is that the caretaker(who presented the house beautifully) has a french telephone number so contacting him incurs an international call charge!
