Tigh Tasgaidh is an elegant seafront house in the picturesque West Highland village of Dornie, which boasts luxury and comfort for up to eleven guests, as well as a short walk to the most photographed castle in Scotland – Eilean Donan Castle.
This stunning Victorian holiday home is nestled in a prime location on the shores of Loch Long, with spectacular views across the sea to the Isle of Skye just eight miles away, and offers spacious accommodation, all furnished and decorated to the highest standard.
The white-washed property is entered through its pretty waterfront garden into a vestibule, which leads into the first of two large sitting rooms, where long windows provide impressive views, with a log burner and comfortable sofas to ensure a cosy retreat.
A games room next door adds another special dimension to the sprawling ground floor, which also has a classically styled dining room, perfect for memorable gatherings, and a generous, stylish kitchen with breakfast room, ideal for catching up over morning coffee. The hall leads to a utility room, and an annexe comprising a double bedroom and twin bedroom with lovely garden views, alongside a shower room and toilet.
A grand staircase leads up to an equally impressive first-floor suite, which offers three sumptuous double ensuite bedrooms, as well as a single bedroom, and the second sitting room with plenty of big comfy chairs to enjoy, as well as first-rate views of the sea loch and beyond. An additional separate bathroom completes this floor.
With its own direct access to Loch Long on the doorstep, and just 500 metres away from the world-famous Eilean Donan Castle, this outstanding holiday home sits on a quiet single-track road, in an enclosed garden, with private parking.
For families and groups looking to get away, relax, and spread out, whilst enjoying a deluxe house in beautiful surroundings, Tigh Tasgaidh will be difficult to beat.
The magnificent Lochalsh region of the West Highlands is the land of fairytale castles, clans, mountains and lochs, as well as being known as the gateway to one of the most famous islands in Britain –the Isle of Skye.
Situated on the mainland to the east of the renowned misty Isle of Skye, the area boasts dramatic scenery, attractive coastlines, history, boat trips, wildlife, and distilleries, where visitors flock from all over the world.
Nestled in this beautiful part of Wester Ross is the picturesque former fishing village of Dornie, a small settlement that stands at the meeting point of three sea lochs – Loch Duich, Loch Alsh and Loch Long. This well-positioned beauty spot is just a 15-minute drive away from the renowned Skye Bridge on the Road to the Isles, and there is plenty to see and do right on the doorstep.
Just a short walk from Dornie sits one of the area’s most famous and recognised landmarks, Eilean Donan Castle. Dating from the 13th century, this fully-restored Scottish icon is located on its own little island, overlooking the Isle of Skye, surrounded by the forested mountains of Kintail. With a visitor centre, gift shop and restaurant, it is a must-see for any visitors.
And as an area full of idyllic hills, it is a popular mecca for Munro Baggers and novice climbers alike. From the breathtaking Falls of Glomach - one of the highest waterfalls in Britain that requires a six-mile hike there and back - to the famed Five Sisters of Kintail ridgewalk, or the Dornie Loop that winds along the banks of Loch Duich, there are many great trails to choose from.
Also well-worth a visit is the quaint village of Plockton and its sheltered sandy bay just 11 miles away, on the stunning shores of Loch Carron. Sheltered from the winds, it is home to New Zealand cabbage palm trees, giving it a sub-tropical appearance.
At the heart of the village is The Dornie Hotel, and The Clachan pub, with the nearest grocery store and post office located four miles away, at Reraig. The nearest supermarket is seven miles away in the bustling harbour village of Kyle of Lochalsh, which is home to a busy harbour and marina. It also has a swimming pool, and the nearest train station. A petrol station can be found just under four miles away, at Inverinate.
There are also cycling adventures aplenty, with bike hire available eight miles away from Dornie at Skye MTB Adventures.
With plenty to see, do, and taste, Dornie and the surrounding area is a place where a warm welcome, and an unforgettable stay are guaranteed.
It is a two-and-a-half hour direct train journey from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh. There is an airport at Inverness, 80 mile away, with routes to cities across the UK. For visitors driving from the south, follow the A82 from Glasgow through Glencoe and on to Fort William. Those driving from Edinburgh can head north on the A9 towards the Cairngorm National Park.
