The Hillside Hideaway is a chic, modern retreat that sits on its own in a dramatic hillside situation looking out over stunning Loch Harport, just half a mile from Carbost on the scenic Isle of Skye.

The house has been built right into the hillside to make the very most of the incredible view and it has good green credentials with its air source heat pump and unusual ‘living roof’ where various plants grow. Once inside the amazing vista is quite captivating and is showcased by huge floor to ceiling windows that have been used on two whole sides of the main living area to draw you in the minute you enter.
At the heart of the living area is a warming wood-burning stove and comfy seating to curl up on with dining behind and a neat kitchen area with a little utility room off it. A snug/office area has been set up behind the stove as an extra hideaway that is the perfect place to sit and read a book.
Doors lead from the dining area out to a wonderful deck that has further seating to admire the water from and is a lovely spot for enjoying some sunshine.
The master bedroom is colourful and luxurious with a TV and a spacious en suite bathroom with a double sink and the choice of a bath or a separate large walk-in shower.
Outside is a large gravelled parking area with a large turning area, room for up 2 cars and steps that lead down to the front door.
Just down the road is the famous Talisker Distillery (0.5 miles), the oldest working distillery on Skye that was built back in 1831, where tours explaining the fascinating process of how the fine single malts are produced are available, followed by a tasting session.
Essentials can be picked at the small grocery shop in walking distance in Carbost (0.5 miles) and the Old Inn there is a good place to stop off for a drink or meal that, if timed right, may coincide with one of the live performances from local musicians that they host.
From the pontoon that is visible from the house SeaSkye’s seafari trips head out to a choice of destinations. Visit the most westerly point of the island at Neist Point with the chance to see basking sharks and perhaps even minke whales along the way or head out across Loch Bracadale to the impressive McLeod’s Maidens sea stacks.
One of the highlights of any holiday on Skye is a trip to the wonderful Fairy Pools at the foot of the Black Cuillin mountains with their gorgeous clear waters and impressive waterfalls that flow down from the River Brittle. Climbers will find plenty to amuse them as there are 11 different munros within the Cuillin range to ‘bag’.
Over in Talisker Bay (5 miles) is a lovely sandy beach that just begs to be explored with its unusual mix of white and black sands (formed from nearby black basalt) that merge to form a striking grey colour. Wildlife is abundant on Skye with the chance to see otters, foxes, red deer and perhaps even golden eagles and magnificent white-tailed sea eagles.
