It can be hard to tear one’s eyes away from the great views that can be admired from both inside and outside the cottage, but needs must when there are so many sights to see and activities to try nearby.
The well-equipped kitchen and dining area are in together with delightful scenery to take in from the window during meals. An inviting wood-burning stove in the cosy sitting room is perfect for toe toasting whilst relaxing or watching TV. Also, downstairs is an attractive double bedroom and a shower room with a lovely walk-in shower.
Heading upstairs there is a twin bedroom and a double bedroom (king-size) that benefit from more wonderful coastal views from their dormer windows. As the staircase is spiral and fairly narrow it may not be suitable for those with mobility issues.
In the enclosed garden a raised decking area has been perfectly positioned to make the most of the outlook across the water to the mountains beyond, with the ruins of Knock Castle also being visible in the distance. A picnic table allows for al fresco dining whilst being able to fully take in the beautiful surroundings. Parking is in the gravelled area just by the front door.
The Sleat peninsula is very well placed as it can be accessed via the Skye bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh on the mainland or by a 30 minute ferry ride into Armadale from Mallaig in Lochaber.
Several excellent restaurants can be sampled in easy driving distance and the remains of Knock Castle, that can be seen from the cottage’s garden, can be explored on foot for a closer look.
A charming, sheltered beach can be found at Armadale (4 miles) which is also the nearest place to head to for basic groceries, although it is worth stocking up at the supermarket in Broadford (12 miles). There are attractive gardens to wander around amidst the ruins of Armadale Castle, where the Museum of Isles will be of interest to history enthusiasts and those looking to trace their ancestors.
Whisky lovers will welcome a visit to the Torabhaig Distillery that is only half a mile away. As the distillery has only been in production since 2017 its first batches are only just becoming available after spending 3 years in cask (the minimum legal requirement in order for it to be referred to as whisky). The Talisker Distillery (36 miles), which is the oldest on the island, can be reached within an hour’s drive.
Make sure to make time for a trip out to the gorgeous Camas Daraich beach (9.5 miles) that is said, by those in the know, to be one of the nicest on the whole of Skye. It is about an hour’s walk from the parking area but it is well worthwhile with white sands to explore and sparkling, clear waters where dolphins can often be spotted.
