With so many activities to try whilst on the island and everything from walking and sightseeing to mountain biking and wildlife spotting to fit in, the house has a cosy atmosphere that greets guests on each return like a welcoming embrace.
Immediately on walking into the deceptively spacious, open plan living area, attention can’t help but be drawn to the scene laid out beyond the extensive glass wall. Comfy seating by the wood-burning stove offers a ringside seat for the vista out over the valley to the mountains beyond as well as the warming glow of the fire. A sliding glass door by the dining table opens out onto a raised deck and all the cooking equipment required is easily to hand in the kitchen area.
Both of the attractively presented double bedrooms have huge windows by the bed so that the view can be woken up to each morning from the comfort of a king-size bed. One of the bedrooms has a en suite shower room and the other makes use of a bathroom where the choice between a long soak in the double-ended bath or the convenience of the walk-in shower can be made. There is even a little study should a break away for some alone time appeal or the opportunity to catch up on some emails.
The garden that encircles the house is enclosed and has ample room for parking several cars. As the house is newly built, the garden is still settling into the surrounding landscape but offers an expansive outlook of the surrounding croft land.
Glendale, less than a mile away, has a little shop/post office and a coffee shop and traditional jewellery can be picked up at nearby Skye Silver. The peninsula itself is great for hiking and climbing or venture about an hour south for the chance to tackle the famous Cuillin mountains.
Less than 5 minutes’ walk away is an excellent vegetarian restaurant where tasty dishes can be paired with fine teas from around the world. Foodies will be delighted that it is only a 10 minute drive to the award-winning Three Chimneys Restaurant which is a wonderful place to enjoy a really special meal.
History buffs will want to go to Loch Dunvegan to explore the majestic Dunvegan Castle (9 miles) that sits on a rocky outcrop of the eastern shore. 30 generations of the MacLeod family have called it home over the past 800 years and it is still occupied to this day. Tickets are available for tours of the castle and there are also boat trips for spotting the local colony of seals.
It is worth venturing further up the loch to the stunning beach at Claigan (13 miles) that is a real sight to behold with its bright white sands (coralline deposits from Maërl seaweed) that make the water look particularly blue and inviting. It almost seems tropical, particularly on fine days, although it is a joy to wander along whatever the weather to take in stunning views towards the Outer Hebrides.
To experience the highest cliff walk in Britain, head over to Neist Point (4.5 miles) where the path along the cliffs leads to the Stevenson lighthouse on a headland at the most westerly part of Skye. The dramatic scene below often leaves visitors awestruck and there is the possibility of spotting dolphins, whales and basking sharks as well as a huge array of seabirds.
