Overview

The house is set out over three floors, as is typical for these old fishermen’s cottages, which are connected by steepish stairs (they were fit in those days).

On the ground floor is the spacious, modern and well-equipped kitchen with a dining area and the snug sitting room on the first floor has a beautiful sea view.

The double bedroom has been laid out on the top floor and from all of the cottage’s front windows there are more wonderful, uninterrupted sea views - you may even be lucky enough to see seals and dolphins swimming past the door!

While traditionally these old cottages with their thick walls and small windows could be rather dark, the careful choice of décor means that this is certainly not the case at East Shore. Both the kitchen and sitting room, that face south, are bright and sunny while the upstairs bedroom has both a Velux and a dear little window on the gable end at the side that adds to the charm.

Map & Local

Nestled around its picturesque harbour, St Monans is a peaceful and charming village in the heart of the East Neuk. Its tranquil atmosphere makes it a perfect starting point for exploring the nearby fishing villages along the coastal path. The area is also a golfer’s paradise, with an abundance of top-quality courses nearby, including the iconic St Andrews, only 13 miles away.

For those who enjoy cold-water swimming, St Monans offers an open-air sea pool, ideal for a refreshing dip. The cottage’s windows provide stunning views, turning birdwatching into a daily delight, while the nearby shoreline, rich in fascinating geological features, frequently reveals hidden fossils.

Within a few minutes' walk of the cottage, you'll find two highly regarded restaurants—Craig Millar and the East Pier Smokehouse—as well as The Giddy Gannet café. A small grocery store in the village covers the essentials, and just two minutes away by car are the Ardross Farm Shop and the Bowhouse, offering local produce. Plus, the fresh fish from the village’s fish merchants is second to none.

In addition to its legendary golf courses, St Andrews is also steeped in history and has a vast expanse of glorious sandy beach. There is cycle hire and watersports in Elie and you can also take boat trips to view the seabird colonies on the Isle of May in the Firth of Forth from Anstruther.

With so much to see and do nearby, you’ll also find that day trips to Edinburgh, Perth, the Highlands, and Loch Lomond are easily within reach.
