Unwind in comfort and style at Jalna, a beautifully designed holiday cottage in the idyllic hamlet of Arncroach. Just 5 miles from the coastal town of Anstruther and within easy reach of Fife’s hidden gems, Jalna offers a relaxing escape. Pittenweem is 4 miles away, and St Andrews is 10 miles.
Built in the 1800s, Jalna has a rich history in Arncroach. It is believed to have served as the village Post Office, sub postmaster's house and sweet shop, and legend has it that it was once home to the cartographer of the famous Arctic explorer Ernest Shackleton.
Inside Jalna, you’ll find a blend of contemporary comfort and historic charm. The cosy sitting room features a wood-burning stove, while the spacious conservatory lets in plenty of natural light. French doors open to an enclosed and secluded garden with seating areas, a fire pit, and a hammock, perfect for al fresco relaxation.
The high-ceilinged kitchen is well-equipped with a choice of cookers, including an Esse wood-burning stove and a range cooker. The french doors provide easy access to the garden for outdoor dining.
Jalna accommodates up to 6 guests in three bedrooms: a king-sized master bedroom with an en suite shower room, another king bedroom, and a twin room. The main bathroom, next to the twin room, features a large walk-in shower.
There is a handy porch area for storing coats and shoes, and a utility room with a washing machine and drying rack, ideal for beach days. The cottage is all on one level, making it suitable for those with limited mobility. Unique design features throughout the cottage make it a special place for making lasting memories.
Private off-street parking is available next to the cottage.
Please note: There is a raised pond in the garden, please ensure supervision for the safety of young children.
The area around Arncroach is full of Fife’s hidden gems, from quaint fishing villages and historical sites to stunning beaches and coastal walks. Jalna is the perfect base to explore this beautiful part of Scotland.
For supplies, the nearest shop is in Colinsburgh (3.5 miles), and there is a supermarket in Anstruther (4.5 miles). Pittenweem (3.5 miles) offers a selection of restaurants and pubs.
Fife, known as the ancestral home of Scottish monarchs, has a rich history. Historical landmarks worth visiting include Kellie Castle, just one mile from the cottage by car or an easy walk, with its stunning architecture and gardens, and Newark Castle (4 miles), set on the coast.
St Andrews, known as the ‘Home of Golf,’ is just 10 miles away. Besides world-renowned golf courses, it boasts a rich history and beautiful beaches. Explore the ruins of St Andrews Cathedral, climb St Rule's Tower for panoramic views, and visit the historic University of St Andrews.
For golfers, there are 44 courses in Fife. The nearest is Charleton Golf Course (4.5 miles). Other nearby courses include Anstruther Golf Club (5 miles), Kingsbarns Golf Links (9 miles), and the courses at Crail (9 miles) and Elie (6 miles).
If you enjoy fishing, the harbour at Anstruther (4.5 miles) is ideal. Choose from the white pier or the red pier, each offering different catches depending on the season.
For beach lovers, there are many options. Stroll along the golden sands at West Sands and East Sands in St Andrews (10 miles), or visit Ruby Bay in Elie (6 miles). Other beautiful beaches include those at St Monans (5 miles), Pittenweem (4 miles), and Anstruther (5 miles).
The Fife Coastal Path, a 116-mile long-distance footpath, offers scenic beauty and diverse landscapes, passing through some of Scotland’s most picturesque villages. Near the cottage, Gillingshill Reservoir and Nature Reserve are within walking distance.
For the more adventurous, the Elie Chain Walk is a thrilling 1,640-foot scramble along cliffs using chains. If you prefer mountain biking, there are trails of varying difficulty in the region to suit everyone.
