Inverallt House is a charming, elegant B listed villa set in the only Area of Panoramic Quality in the Lomond and the North district of Argyll and Bute. The house sits in beautiful extensive private grounds right on the shore of Loch Long in the peaceful hamlet of Portincaple, just 8 miles south of Arrochar.
Inside the house is warm and inviting with spacious accommodation to spread out into and a choice of places to relax with a cosy sitting room with wood-burning stove at its centre, a separate snug/reading room and sun porch with seating overlooking the loch. The kitchen is modern and bright, with a double oven to cook up a storm on and a central island with seating for enjoying a drink at in the evening whilst keeping the nominated cook company. There is also a formal dining room with two window seats that are ideal for admiring the stunning panoramic views over the loch to the hills beyond.
Upstairs, the master double bedroom (king-size) has a wonderful outlook over the garden to the loch beyond, with lovely big bay windows that really showcase the view. There is a further double bedroom (king-size) with a modern en suite shower room, a small double bedroom, a spacious twin bedroom and a modern bathroom that has the bonus of having both a double-ended bath and a huge walk-in shower.
There is plenty of parking by the house and the delightful patio area with its 8 seater table and chairs is a great place to sit and relax or enjoy al fresco meals with views to die for. The extensive gardens are full of mature plants and the trees to three sides give a very peaceful, private feeling. There are rocky outcrops and a burn (with steep banks) running through the garden so care should be taken, particularly with children.
Steps lead down to the shoreline where a pretty summerhouse sits right on the rocky shore. It is a wonderful place to take in the ever changing light bouncing off the water, watch the oyster catchers, or perhaps be lucky enough to spot seals, porpoises, dolphins or the family of otters that often visit. Whales have become regular visitors to the loch in recent years and there are also sea eagles nesting on the hillside across the loch. Fishing is directly from the shore or the slipway and there is even a mooring for a small craft for those looking to bring their own boat along.
The nearest village Garelochhead (2 miles) has two general stores, a pharmacy, PO, petrol station, pub and takeaways. The Three Lochs Way walking route passes Portincaple and can be joined in either direction.
From the train station in Garelochhead, Helensburgh is accessible in just 10 minutes and the centre of Glasgow in just over an hour for a day trip. Glasgow has all desired shops as well as beautiful Botanic gardens and a range of galleries and museums.
The famous West Highland Line can be taken to all points north including Oban, Fort William and Mallaig passing over the Harry Potter viaduct at Glenfinnan on one of the world’s most scenic railway journeys.
The area boasts several spectacular golf courses including Loch Lomond Golf Club and Cameron House Golf & Spa Resort which are both only 12 miles away. The seaplane from Loch Lomond offers spectacular hour long low level flights taking in the Clyde Estuary and the islands of Bute, Arran, Islay, Jura and Gigha as well as the mountains and lochs of Argyll.
Shandon Country Pursuits (5.5 miles) has a range of outdoor activities on offer from pony trekking and quad biking to clay pigeon shooting and archery. They also run offroad driving challenges for testing out the driving skills by negotiating around 800 acres of bogs, hills and steep slopes in a 4x4.
Those who fancy exploring on two wheels can hire bikes in Helensburgh where there is a pretty 18 hole golf course with lovely views out over Clyde estuary, several eateries, a choice of supermarkets and the National Trust’s Hill House which is regarded as the finest of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s works.
Loch Lomond Shores (11 miles) was voted Scotland’s Best Visitor Centre and is the gateway to the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. The park offers an excellent range of activities for all the family including a fabulous sea life aquarium, RSPB Bird of Prey centre, Treezone and Loch Lomond Pirates as well as shops, cafés and restaurants. Try out watersports, mountain biking, walking and mountain climbing or hire a rowing/pedal boat and set out on the water to fish or explore the beautiful islands. There is a wealth of hill climbing in the area with the ‘Arrochar Alps’ nearby (8 miles) and other popular climbs including the fabulous Cobbler (Ben Arthur), Bein Narnain, Ben Vorlich and Bein Ime which all offer spectacular scenery.
