Overview

Clad in its namesake larch panelling, this substantial house greets guests with its inviting entrance hall that hints at the delights to be found within. The heart of the house is the huge open plan kitchen/dining room that lends itself very well to socialising, where everyone can gather together around the dining table for a bite or a catch up on the day’s activities. Large windows and high ceilings emphasis the feeling of space and just off it is a utility room that is great for cleaning up after muddy walks as it has a door in from the garden.

In order to fully unwind, pick a sofa to sink into in the colourful sitting room and take advantage of the wood-burning stove that keeps it toasty throughout. Also on this level is a roomy and bright twin bedroom that makes use of the sleek shower room next door.

Off the sunny landing upstairs lie the other two bedrooms and a chic, modern bathroom with a bath and shower over. Both of these bedrooms are decorated in relaxing, soothing tones and have luxurious king-size beds that are ideal to stretch out on.

A patio wraps all the way round the house with seating for outdoor dining to the rear and a lovely covered seating area to the front with a nice, south easterly aspect. Private parking is provided directly in front of the gated garden.

Map & Local

For a relatively small village, Braemar is well catered for with shops, pubs and restaurants all just a short stroll away. The 18 hole Braemar Golf Club affords the chance to play on the highest 18 hole golf course in Scotland with gorgeous scenery to admire, followed by a stop off at the welcoming clubhouse.

Excellent food and a public bar are on offer at The Fife Arms that is like an art gallery inside with over 10,000 different artworks on display that are a real riot for the senses. From the centre of Braemar, the Lion’s Face Trail circular walking route heads out into the surrounding countryside with the chance to take in Braemar Castle along the way.

Every September the biggest and best known of the highland games, the Braemar Gathering, comes to the Duke of Fife Memorial Park in the village. The event is a celebration of traditional highland food, dress, music and dancing and is often attended by the Queen herself. It is hard not to be impressed by the heavy events such as hammer throwing and caber tossing where cabers that can weigh over 150lbs are sent hurtling through the air with what looks like relative ease.

Guided tours of the royal residence Balmoral Castle (9 miles) and its grand ballroom are available and there are scenic walks to be had around its beautiful grounds.

Glenshee Ski Resort (9 miles) is less than 15 minutes’ drive away should some fun on the slopes be on the agenda, with 21 different lifts that make short work of the mountain ascents.
