Though tucked away in an idyllic rural setting at the end of a quiet country road it is just a few minutes drive from both of these towns and from the main roads north to Edinburgh and south to England.
Originally one of the farm cottages, Knowpark stands looking out across an ancient sheep pasture of the same name, with wonderful open views to Rubislaw and the Cheviots.
The cottage has been beautifully modernised and tastefully furnished to provide a bright and extremely comfortable holiday home.
The sitting room has a beautiful old cast-iron fireplace with an open fire that supplements the central heating and ensures that it remains very cosy. The L-shaped seating cleverly divides the room into two distinct areas, with the dining table at the far end. Guests actually have the choice of two places to dine, for there is also provision in the large, well-equipped dining kitchen for less formal occasions. There is also a handy utility/boot room.
All on one level, there is a light and airy double bedroom (with queen-size bed), a twin room that has an additional TV and a single room. A shower room completes the accommodation.
Outside, there is plenty of parking behind the cottage, while to the front a slightly raised terrace with furniture provides a lovely place to sit in the sun and enjoy the wonderful views. The large enclosed grass garden wraps around the cottage, providing a perfect play area for young children and there is also secure storage available for bicycles, etc. Indeed, once you are there, you may well find it hard to leave this little oasis of rural tranquillity.
This is a lovely part of the country for touring, walking or simply relaxing in its peace and tranquillity.
Walkers can take advantage of both the Southern Upland and St Cuthbert's Ways, there is riding at nearby Ashkirk and many excellent golf courses within a 10 mile radius. Fishing enthusiasts can obtain permits for the many trout lochans in the area, or for salmon fishing on the mighty Tweed itself.
With its quiet roads and established tracks, the area is also popular with cyclists who enjoy exploring on two wheels whilst taking in the amazing scenery.
Selkirk is the nearest town, with all facilities, golf course, and swimming pool, while Melrose, nestled under the Eildon Hills, is a popular tourist town with many interesting shops and good eating places and, of course, its historic Abbey.
Towards Peebles there are the famous mountain biking trails at Glentress and Innerleithen and to the south Hawick offers cashmere outlets. Jedburgh also has its medieval Abbey, Mary Queen of Scots’ House and a haunted jail, as well as lots of little shops and eateries.
The Scottish Borders is an area rich in history and there are plenty of ruined abbeys, castles, keeps and stately homes to visit, including Scott's Abbotsford itself, which is only a few miles from the cottage. Further afield, Scotland's historic capital, Edinburgh is just over an hour's drive away, or 50 minutes by train from Galashiels (8.5 miles), and offers plenty of shopping and a wide range of tourist attractions.
