The Estate’s owners are passionate about conservation and have set aside specific areas of their land for nature to take over, drawing in over 170 different species of animal in the last 10 years.

Some pretty nature walks lead around the estate with lots of beautiful flora and fauna and roe deer, hares, pheasants, owls and butterflies amongst just some of the wildlife to look out for along the way.

Nature lovers will also enjoy visiting nearby Lindean Loch (3 miles) that has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest with its mixed landscape of woodland, pasture and grassland that attracts wildfowl and songbirds as well as goldfinches, skylarks and even greater spotted woodpeckers.

For something a bit different, try a clay pigeon shooting lesson at Bisley at Braidwood in Midlem (1.5 miles) where there are wonderful views of the Eildon hills to admire and a little café to recharge in afterwards.

The 4 acre loch at Clerklands Fly Fishery (6 miles) is stocked with trout and is a very peaceful spot to while away an afternoon or two fishing, with boat hire available for heading further out onto the loch. Golfers are spoilt for choice with a driving range to practise on at Synton Mains (6.5 miles) and golf courses to try at Selkirk (4 miles), Woll (7.5 miles), Melrose (7.5 miles) and Minto (8 miles) to name but a few.

Selkirk is the place to head to for stocking up on essentials or sampling a local specialty, the Selkirk Bannock. The town also has plenty of shops, cafés and restaurants and is home to the Lochcarron Visitor Centre that is a great place to pick up some high quality knitwear, cashmere and even traditional kilts.
