Overview

The peace and seclusion of the setting is the more remarkable, since it is also just a few yards from the main shopping street of Newton Stewart in 'Bonnie Galloway', with its many amenities.

Expertly and imaginatively converted from what used to be the town's old stables, it is now a most comfortable and well-appointed holiday home. With all rooms on the ground floor and overlooking the patio and orchard, it is also ideal for guests of more limited mobility.

The living area is open plan, with a well-equipped kitchen area and equally well furnished dining and sitting area, as well as a library of almost 100 books, guides and maps. A large picture window makes it light and bright. The master bedroom has a double bed with en suite shower, while the twin bedroom also has its own bath/shower.

Outside there is private off road parking, a stylish patio (with furniture) with raised fruit tree beds and the orchard that provides the safest of havens for children to enjoy.

Map & Local

Newton Stewart is the 'gateway' to the hills and forests of Galloway. The Galloway Forest Park affords wonderful walking and is perhaps now even more famous for its superb mountain biking trails - Kirroughtree, at just over a mile from the cottage, is probably the nearest.

For those interested in wildlife, a drive through the Wood of Cree RSPB nature reserve is a must and the area is also home to red squirrels and red kites. Galloway is the site of Scotland's first 'Dark Sky Park' and is one of the best places in the country for seeing the stars at night. Those seeking other thrills will find that Gatehouse of Fleet (18m) has the longest zipwire in the UK!

There are historic houses and gardens to visit and the town itself has a golf course, cinema and indoor pool, as well as a good assortment of independent shops and eating places.

The nearby coast too is full of interest, with sandy beaches and from the Mull of Galloway you can see the Lake District, Wales and the Isle of Man on a clear day. For some 'foreign' travel, why not take a day trip to Belfast from Cairnryan to see the new Titanic exhibition, while nearer to home the area hosts book, music, food and walking festivals of national repute.
