Appletree Cottage stands in an oasis of a large Victorian walled orchard recently replanted with fruit trees and just across from its sister cottage, Peartree, yet it is just yards from the centre of Newton Stewart in Bonnie Galloway.

Converted from an old steading, it has been a labour of love for the owners with a view into making it their retirement home. The cottage is beautifully appointed and retains the character of the building at its heart.
Inside the living area is open plan and has been beautifully appointed and furnished. The space has been cleverly designed so that the cooking, eating and seating areas, whilst in one room, are clearly demarcated. It has a very airy and spacious feel with all the light that flows in from the many windows and there are French doors leading outside to the patio for outside living.
Within the living area there is a study space with an abundance of books and games, plus maps and guides of the local area. It is a very snug cottage and while it is therefore unlikely you will need any additional heating, the electric stove is always there to create some extra ambience. Downstairs there is a very comfortable twin bedroom with an en suite shower room that is ideal for people with limited mobility.
A spiral staircase takes you to a spacious bedroom with a super king-size bed and en suite bathroom with a large bath. Finally, a Juliet balcony overlooks the orchard and patio.
Outside there is plenty of parking and a couple of different seating areas within the orchard standing. There is also a bike rack where bikes can be locked up.
Newton Stewart is the 'gateway' to the hills and forests of Galloway with mountain biking trails that are nationally recognised as being of the very best.
Nearby there is golf, fishing, riding and water sports plus award-winning gardens, making Newton Stewart the ideal holiday destination. Visitors have commented on the diverse wildlife in the area, including red squirrels and red kites. There is now a 24 mile Galloway Kite Trail round Loch Ken, where it is almost always possible to see some of these magnificent birds. The trail can be tackled by car or bike, with walks, viewpoints and a feeding station. Near Newton Stewart, too, is the RSPB Bird Reserve at the Wood of Cree.
Those seeking other thrills will find that the Gatehouse of Fleet has the longest zipwire in the UK and this is also one of the best places in the UK for watching the stars at night!
The beaches round Luce Bay will delight the younger members of the party and for a spot of foreign travel, look no further! Ferries to Ireland leave from Stranraer and Cairnryan and are ideal for a day trip over the water. There are some very special shopper's deals to be had on fares at various times of the year.
