The sitting room at the front of the house enjoys the best of the wonderful views out over Loch Dunvegan and it is easy to spend hours ignoring the TV and wildlife spotting instead. An open staircase from the sitting room leads up to the bedrooms above.
A wood-burning stove right at the heart of the well-equipped kitchen keeps everything nice and cosy and the dining area has been set up by the large picture windows so that the beautiful loch views can be admired during meals. There is also a bathroom and handy utility room on this level.
There is also a lovely double bedroom with plenty of storage and French doors out to the garden downstairs and two further attractive double bedrooms and a modern shower room upstairs.
Two further guests can be accommodated by booking the attached annex, Melrose Cottage, which has a double bedroom, shower room and even its own open plan living area with a kitchen, dining area and sitting room.
The garden is laid mainly to grass with a gravelled parking area just beside the house and even more wonderful views out over Loch Dunvegan to enjoy.
For a special treat the wonderful fine dining experience on offer at the famous Three Chimneys Restaurant in walking distance is just the ticket.
The village shop at Glendale (2.5 miles) has the added bonus of having a licensed café and there is a further grocery shop at Dunvegan (5.5 miles). Foodies will also love the Old School restaurant in Dunvegan that specialises in fresh, local seafood.
The surrounding area is a haven for wildlife and, in particular, Loch Dunvegan and its islands make the ideal playground for an abundance of seal colonies. Due to the lack of light pollution on the island the dark skies are great for star gazing and perhaps even spotting the amazing Northern Lights.
Walkers and climbers will find plenty to keep them busy with Old MacLeod’s Tables, two impressive flat-topped mountains, reachable in under half an hour’s drive. Skye is also known for the Black Cuillin mountain range that dominates the landscape and contains a total of 12 different munros to tackle, with stunning panoramic views to be appreciated from the summits.
No holiday on Skye would be complete without a trip to the ‘capital’ Portree (24 miles) to see the pretty coloured houses that line the picturesque harbour there.
