This most elegant conversion of an old farm building that now provides stylish and extremely comfortable holiday accommodation.
The owners, who live next door, have tried to think of everything that would make a stay at Kiltyrie Cottage as memorable as possible and internally it more than matches the excellence of its situation. The large sitting room has a monochrome colour scheme throughout that creates a very stylish and uncluttered feel. There are two sets of French doors to the front that overlook the loch and fill the room with light. The floors are fully tiled with plenty of comfortable and stylish seating centred round the cast iron wood-burning stove with its feature flue that forms a focal point between the two sets of doors.
There is a spacious reception area that is open plan to the modern dining kitchen which is well-equipped and has a stylish dining area.
Upstairs are two bedrooms, a double and a twin, both of which are most attractively furnished and of a good size. The fully tiled family bathroom has a shower over the bath and there is also a wide and charming landing with a Juliet balcony, again overlooking the loch, which is a lovely place to sit with a book or to watch the ever changing light on the water.
This truly is a cottage that cannot fail to impress in terms of both comfort and attention to detail.
Loch Tay is not only scenic, but is also a very central location for touring in all directions and for plenty of activities.
The Loch has watersports galore and for history buffs there is an Iron Age crannog in the loch at the pretty village of Kenmore at the eastern end.
There are golf courses at Kenmore and Killin and horse riding just down the road. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to hill walking. At Kiltyrie you are, in fact, on the lower slopes of Ben Lawers itself, with many other challenging heights in close proximity.
Killin is in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park and is about an hour and a half's drive from Oban on the west coast. Killin itself has a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants.
To the north east, there is the Tay Forest Park, Aberfeldy (with all facilities) and Pitlochry with its Festival Theatre. For more lochs and mountains you could try Glen Lyon, Loch Tummel and Loch Rannoch. There is surely too much to do here in a single week!
