West Tweed is one of a pair of delightful, larch clad rural retreats set amidst the rolling country landscape of the historic Old Melrose Estate by the River Tweed, 3 miles from Melrose in the Scottish Borders.

This is a real walkers’ paradise with so much to see and do that a week’s stay may not be long enough to fit everything in. With the amazing scenery spread out before the deck the temptation to get out exploring may even surpass the lure of staying in enjoying the comforting glow of the wood-burning stove.
The open plan layout is very well appointed with the seating, dining and kitchen areas all cleverly positioned to make the most of the available space and high ceilings that add to the light and airy feeling throughout.
A cosy double bedroom with a king-size bed is set out at one end with sliding doors out to the incredible wraparound deck that has an attractive vista over fields to the woodland that lines the River Tweed. In the contemporary bathroom there is a huge, walk-in shower or a separate bath that is the perfect for relaxing and soaking away any troubles (or aches and pains from all that walking).
With walks that lead directly into the surrounding countryside and a path that meanders down to the picturesque river, this is the perfect spot to experience the beauty of the Scottish Borders in both comfort and style. After your adventures, the Estate's nearby tearoom offers an inviting retreat for a refreshing cup of tea and a slice of indulgent cake
As part of a conservation-focused Estate with stunning woodland walks and riverside trails, West Tweed is perfect for those seeking a relaxing and peaceful retreat surrounded by nature and wildlife.
West's sister property East Tweed can also be booked for larger parties wishing to holiday together but still have their own space.
Old Melrose itself has a lovely little tearoom that is pet friendly so it makes for a very welcome stop off point whilst out on dog walks and there is an antiques hall to have a look around as well, all only a minutes’ walk away.
A small supermarket can be found in Newtown St Boswells (2 miles) and St Boswells (2.5 miles) is home to a lovely café/bookshop with an excellent deli, along with a couple of different restaurant and takeaway options.
Melrose (2.5 miles) is very well catered for in terms of interesting shops to wander around, another supermarket and a good range of eateries to sample for lunch or evening meals. The town is known for the Melrose Sevens rugby tournament that is held annually and has interesting Roman connections that are displayed at the Trimontium Museum down from the Market Square.
Bikes can be hired in Melrose in order to make the most of the some of the quiet back roads or, if mountain biking is on the agenda, it is well worthwhile heading to Innerleithen (20 miles) to try out the four downhill, graded trails at the 7stanes centre there.
Of course, no trip to this part of Scotland would be complete without visiting the stunning capital Edinburgh just an hour’s drive away. A good alternative to driving up there is to jump on the train at Tweedbank (4.5 miles) from where it is less than an hour’s journey into the heart of the city.
