Occupying a lovely coastal spot looking out to sea is Dunmorag Cottage, a detached cottage that is just quarter of a mile from the ferry terminal at Leverburgh on the stunning Isle of Harris.

This traditional cottage has been completely refurbished to create a cosy, stylish hideaway that is set up just for two, making it the ideal place for a romantic break. The main living area is open plan with a wood-burning stove at its centre and comfortable seating to curl up and relax on.
The kitchen area is very well-equipped and is kept very light and bright by its large skylight, with beautiful views to keep you entertained even as you do the dishes. The neat dining area is set alongside French doors that lead out to the deck and a little utility outbuilding where the laundry facilities are kept.
The cottage is all on one level with a spacious, attractive double bedroom and a generously-sized, modern en suite bathroom that has both a bath and a separate wet room style shower.
Outside the enclosed garden has a little suntrap deck to the rear (with furniture) and views out across a field to the water to the front. Parking is on a gravelled parking area just to the side of the garden.
Harris is accessed by ferry from Uig on Skye, taking an hour and 40 minutes and arriving into Tarbert. You can also fly from Glasgow, Edinburgh or Aberdeen and arrive into Stornoway (55 miles), with car hire available nearby. It is worth stocking up on supermarket supplies in Stornoway before heading down to the cottage.
Just along the road is Leverburgh (0.25 miles) where ferries run out to the little island of Berneray which links up to North Uist via a causeway. Boat trips run over to St Kilda (in season) where you can see thousands of seabirds including puffins, gannets and guillemots and maybe even spot dolphins, basking sharks and minke whales out in the waters.
Harris Outdoor Adventure near the ferry terminal offers sea canoeing/kayaking, sailing day trips and even windkarting, as well as bike hire if you fancy exploring on two wheels. Fishing permits are available in the village, where there is also a community grocery shop/petrol station, a PO and The Anchorage Restaurant that serves excellent meals featuring lots of fresh local seafood.
The coastline of South Harris is dotted with wonderful long sandy beaches, with the nearest being the white sands of Scarista beach just 2 miles away. Carrying on around the coast you will find Borve Mor beach, Horgabost beach and Seilebost beach, all within a 10 mile drive.
Carry on past these beaches to reach Tarbert (18.5 miles) or alternatively drive up the single track ‘Golden Road’ that was named as such because it cost so much to build! Once there you can pick up a real Hebridean speciality from the famous Harris Tweed shop. Along the way it is worth stopping at Fleoideabhagh (8 miles), which is a great spot for spotting seals and otters.
Walkers can enjoy a full day’s hillwalking by tackling Clisham (24 miles), a Corbett that is actually the highest mountain in the whole of the Outer Hebrides. There is plenty of wildlife to look out for across the island and at the North Harris Eagle Observatory (28.5 miles) you can see some of the 20 pairs of resident Golden Eagles.
