With a sea view and seals frequently being seen bobbing past, it truly is an idyllic setting for a relaxing break. The sitting room is the real heart of the house where evenings can be spent enjoying the fire crackling away in the wood-burning stove.
Meals can be savoured together in the dining kitchen and as it is open plan it means that the nominated cook doesn’t have to miss out on any of the conversation and fun.
With everything laid out on one level it is all easily to hand with two attractive bedrooms, a twin room and a double bedroom with even more wonderful views.
The lovely vista out across the tidal bay can particularly be admired from the grassed garden which is the perfect spot from which to try some seal spotting. It is sure to keep children amused for hours!
In Leverburgh (5.5 miles), the second largest settlement on the island, there is a small supermarket for basic provisions and an excellent restaurant that uses lots of fresh, local produce and seafood.
Boats run from Leverburgh over to the fascinating St Kilda archipelago for day trips to this stunning World Heritage Site. It is a 3 hour ferry trip out to the uninhabited island but once there the beautiful cliffs and impressive sea stacks can be appreciated even on the approach. The island is home to the largest population of Atlantic puffins in the whole of the UK that are incredibly charming to watch.
The nearest large supermarket is in Stornoway, the main town on the island, that is over an hour’s drive away so it is worth stocking up on supplies before travelling across by ferry.
Roam Outer Hebrides offer sea kayaking excursions from several different points on the island so that the scenery can be seen from the unique perspective of the water. Oyster catchers, gannets, otters, seals and sometimes even porpoises can be seen along the way.
Gorgeous sandy beaches are the order of the day on Harris and the beach at Seilebost and several at Northton are particularly impressive and are reachable in around half an hour’s drive. Days there can be spent beachcombing, paddling or simply wandering along the picturesque shoreline.
